In his teens, Mr. Shamnad Shamsudeen, The Founder and Chairman of Eastern Cashew, dreamed of establishing his own brand in the Cashew Industry. Immediately after his formal college education in 1996, he pursued his dreams so passionately, made his humble start as a distributor of cashew Kernels in the South Indian state of Kerala.

He impressed his business associates with his traits in terms of credibility, honesty, straight forwardness and promptness which in-turn enabled him to grab new business opportunities seen in and around which enabled him to expand his reach in the region in a sustainable fashion.

About Cashew

About Cashew

Cashew was introduced in India by the Portuguese approximately about 400 years ago. Brazil, Mozambique, Tanzania and Kenya are the other important cashew producing countries in the world.

Cashew kernels are extracted from the raw cashew nuts by roasting, shelling and peeling. After the removal of husk the kernels are graded into wholes, splits, butts and pieces and then the process of packing in 25lbs tins. Two such tins are packed in a card board carton and such cartons are loaded into a full container. USA, Japan, Netherlands, Australia, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, Canada, Kuwait, New Zealand, Singapore and France are the main countries importing cashew kernels from India.



Cashew and Kollam

The city of Kollam is known as the Cashew Capital of the world, which is one the largest processed cashew exporter in the world, 80% of India's export quality cashew kernels are prepared in Kollam. It is estimated that there are approximately 600 multi sized cashew processing units in the district of Kollam with vivid processing capacity. In Kollam district there are more than 260,000 employees engaged in this industry which is 10% of the district’s current population. Cashew industry in Kollam is primarily family owned and run.



Cashew Grades

Cashew is one of the world's most wholesome food stuff. Cashew nuts are an excellent source of protein, carbohydrate, fiber, iron and potassium. It is cholesterol free with a 4:1 ratio of unsaturated fat to saturated fat. The antioxidants in the cashews - beta carotene and Vitamin E, help the body fight against diseases.
